I attended the Chocolate Blues and Business Networking Festival In Indianapolis yesterday and it was a great networking opportunity and a great event. Part of planning for the event meant taking a few minutes to think about how I greet people and introduce myself..
For me, successful networking at any event starts with asking the other person to tell me about themselves and their business. Sure, I'm excited to introduce myself and tell everyone about my work, but I know that if I can open the discussion asking about the other person's work, then the opportunity to joijn forces to help each other can quickly present itself. Sometimes I discover a good fit for my business and sometimes I discover a good opportunity to help connect someone I know with a good business partner for them.
It all begins with how we greet and meet new people with our minds set on listening and getting to know them rather than talking and getting them to know us. Tell me about you!
