Be Unstoppable—Slow and Steady Wins the Race

I was recently reading through a free e-book by Seth Godin on “What Matters Now,” which is filled with wisdom from various experts and intellectuals. But what stopped me cold on p. 27 was a simple formula from Dave Ramsey that may just change my outlook on life. I’ve since read what other people are saying about it, and it’s amazing how profound a simple formula can be.

The theorem is all about MOMENTUM.

Fi (G) = M
T

What this formula means: Focused Intensity OVER TIME, multiplied by God, creates unstoppable Momentum.
Many people lack the intensity or lose focus—often from fear or greed—or they neglect to maintain intense focus over a long enough duration. Ramsey explains momentum builds over time, with slow and steady winning the race, just like The Tortoise and the Hare. It takes 10,000 hours to become proficient at anything. We can’t be successful without first putting in the time. When our focused, long-term efforts are multiplied by God, the impossible becomes possible. We become unstoppable.

Once I visualized the momentum theory, it became immediately clear that the success of every part of our lives—personal, professional, spiritual, marital—depends on this simple theory.

Do you have a goal? Are you focused? Are you intense (passionate)? Have you put in the time to create critical mass? Are you working with God? If so, then you’ve got real momentum.

Michael Hyatt’s great leadership blog provides some more details about Ramsey’s inspirational presentation.

Hi Lori,
You've hit the nail on the head with this one, but we are so impatient. We want it now! I confess I often struggle with the journey, especially in the early miles when the going is often slow and hard going. I question if I'm on the right road. I wonder if it would be best for me to quit. Those are the times when many drop out of the race, but it is often true that if you endure those slow days, you will discover that you one day gain momentum, and when that happens you begin to see your dream becoming a reality.

We often think nothing is happening during those slow and difficult days, but that's not true. We are building strength and developing character, and a lot of other things are going on outside of our view. When the time is right, everything will come together and our journey will pick up momentum which will speed us toward our goal.

Didn't mean to write a book - sorry. Thanks for your words and thoughts.

All the best to you, Lori.

Dan
