Being a small business owner is tough. If you do not think so, you are in denial.
Don't take me wrong. I have seasons of business bliss when my pipeline is close to full, my account balance is sufficient for running the business, I am paying myself again, all account receivables are current and my customers are satisfied and not allowing the competition to steal them away. During times such as these, it is easy to be thankful in my prayer time with the Lord.
What about those anxious times in business? Those times when I am uneasy or fearful about those uncertainties I encounter more often than my seasons of business bliss? Where now is my thankful heart in my prayer time with the Lord?
The Lord instructs me to "Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made know to God." (Philippians 4: 6)
In both good times and bad I often forget about the merciful and gracious benefits I have received from the salvation of the Lord. This is my epicenter of thankfulness. Nothing, and I mean nothing in my life, has meaning apart from His salvation followed by my submission to His Lordship as my King.
If I can stay thankful from the joy of His salvation, then it is a small step to trust in His promises. If I am trusting Him, then anxiety yields to peace. More on that later.
