At F8 this week Facebook rolled out a bunch of new changes to the way you view information from your network. See our blog for the run down on the top 11 changes that happened on Wednesday September 21st (click here for yesterdays blog)
I know everyone accepts change at different speeds. So if your breathing has slowed from yesterday lets talk about what else is coming.
Please know that this is some pretty awesome stuff that is really going to impact that way you connect with others. (Very Exciting!!)
1 – Timeline: is a unique way to present “the story of your life.” When someone looks at your Timeline, he or she will be able to see summaries of the most important events in your personal history — instead of having to scroll through years of every status update you ever created.
The best part is that Timelines won’t be limited to content you already posted on Facebook. You can go in and add items like videos, pictures and stories from key events in your life. It will allow you to tell the story of you.
The second part of this is that you can enhance your Timeline by using apps which allow you to document music you have listened to, display books you have read and even movies that you have watches. Some can be major events in your life. Others aren’t. You will be able to highlight those that you wish to share. Others you can minimize or make private so your friends can’t see or will have to really be interested (dig for) to view.

2 – The new version of Apps: Apps short for applications are utilities if you will that let you share more of your life experience. For example I love the RunKeeper app I use it on my iPhone to track my runs (ok more like walks) and then display them for others to see what I am up to. The new apps will then place these walks into my timeline. I can set the importance of these to be highlighted or not as I give “apps” permission to post to my Timeline. So the lesser things show up in your ticker on the upper right. These are the things you don’t really want to bother your friends with but you want them in your Timeline. So hang with me cause this next example is pretty cool. So say you use an “App” called Spotify to listen to music (sorta like Padora), then a friend of yours is listening to a Led Zeppelin song say Black Dog and you spot this in the ticker. You can click on it and listen to it with your friend at the same time. Zuckerberg calls it serendipitous, I call it a great opportunity to share a moment with a friend.
Watch this video and see what we mean by the new apps.
I get that many of you won’t be as excited as we are about these new improvements to Facebook but I say bring it on. This will force Google Plus to bring up their game and don’t get me started on what that will look like. As I quoted yesterday, Life is change and growth is optional, thank you Mr Zuckerberg for causing growth instead of sitting back on a pile of cash and going stagnant. Which ultimately would cause us all to have wasted the energy that 750,000,000 people are putting into Facebook. Zuckerberg stated in his address that they celebrated over a half a BILLION people using Facebook all at the same time this week.
The human experience is drawling closer together! Pretty cool.
