I'm sure some of you have heard this, but it is certainly worth reconsidering. Think of a big glass jar. We want to fill it with rocks, water, sand, and gravel. It is important to get in as many rocks as possible. If you filled this jar with water first, one could not get anything else in without spilling the water. The jar is full. If however, one would fill the jar with big rocks first, then they could pour in gravel to the top, then sand, and then water. In this demonstration, the big rocks are a symbol of what is important to us. We tend to fill our life with things that are not so important (water and sand), and then we don't have time for the important things in our life (big rocks). To be true to the concept, one must first know what is most important to them, God, family, friends, work, and so on. Then they must put the activities that support the most important parts of their lives on the schedule before the less important activities. Stay true to taking care of what is important first and the rest tends to fall in line. If we let life dictate our schedule, it has a way of filling our time with the unimportant activities that keep the big rocks out.
